Fine Art by Lois Shipley
Welcome !
Usually rural in subject, my paintings usually reveal that landscape was touched by man, even if only a dirt road carving its way through a field indicating the interaction of earth and humans. I am fascinated by the way that a building, left to the will of nature and not tended to by humans, takes on a character that blends and returns to the earth’s elements. The rainbow of colors that appear in a patina of a steel door, aged wooden siding, or tin roof, inspires me to use paints and glazes to recreate the effect on canvas. This has lately given me the excuse to paint in a more abstract way. (see New Paintings)
